Recently, my U7 recreation team played another team from the same area. It was expected to be a good game and very exciting.
Last Spring, my team fell apart against this team. It wasn’t pretty. So, my players were excited to get another opportunity to play this team.
Anyways…we played the game and the outcome was VERY different than last Spring. Although we do not keep score at this level, my players parents did…..the final was 12-2 in our favor.
My kids were excited to even up this series. I was excited that my kids played well. Six of the 9 players on my roster scored on this day. The kids were passing to each other and working well as a team.
My favorite moment came when one of my experienced players made the extra pass to one of my not so experienced players who scored a goal. Then my experienced player went over to my not so experienced player, put his arm around him and gave him a hug. I know it brought a tear to my wife’s eyes.
I am so proud of the kids on this team. They have come so far in such a short time. The experienced players are helping the not so experienced players and those not so experienced players are raising their game to a whole new level.
I’m saddened that the season ends next week with our final game. But, I’m eagerly anitcipating the Spring season….only 5 months away.
